Photo16_100As part of the College In Colorado campaign, we have worked with schools and districts across the state to provide resources and support to help Colorado students explore careers and plan, apply and pay for post-secondary studies.

Multiple school districts and schools in Colorado have implemented CollegeInColorado.org as a career and academic planning tool for their students. Each district approaches implementation in their own unique way based on time and resources available and their own students' needs.

If you are using College In Colorado tools and resources or have developed ways to use CollegeInColorado.org in your lesson plans and activities, colleagues across the state can benefit from your ideas. We would love to have you author an article and include your best practices here on the CIC Partner Network site. Contact us and we'll show you how.

Colorado GEAR UP Students Working on College Credits Now

Colorado GEAR UP sophomores and juniors are utilizing state concurrent enrollment legislation to complete courses that earn them high school and college credit. This opportunity to have all sophomores and juniors complete college level courses while in high school has been made possible through partnerships between school districts and local colleges. School districts provide space and identify potential teachers, while colleges offer curriculum and credential qualified high school teachers to become adjunct professors in an effort to offer the courses on high school campuses.

The course offerings vary at each target school, and include introductory gateway courses, career and technical education courses, and certification opportunities.  In addition to the support provided by classroom instructors, tutors are hired to assist students with material they find difficult and to complement in-class learning. Due to these efforts to assure student success, approximately 83% of GEAR UP sophomores and juniors have enrolled, with 80% earning a C or better.

ICAP Made Simple

Last year's School Finance Act mandated a CollegeInColorado.org account for every 6th-grader and an individual career and academic plan (ICAP)  by 9th grade. The Colorado Department of Education approved the rules and guidelines  for these items on January 13, 2010. College In Colorado has everything you need to meet these requirements in a free, customizable way.

Follow the link above to find all the information you need about how College In Colorado can help with your ICAP implementation.

Make sure to check out other district's ICAP implementation in the articles below.

DPS Post Secondary Planning Guidelines & ICAP

Individual Career and Academic Plans (ICAPs) are part of The Denver Plan. Starting in eighth grade and continuing to 12th grade, schools incorporate the use of electronic ICAPs for each student as a counseling and guidance tool. The districtwide tool for this process is College in Colorado/CHOICES Planner/Explorer.
