Standards and Assessments

As a result of SB08-212, Colorado is in the process of adopting a whole new set of Model Content Standards and Assessments. Here you will find key resources to guide you in understanding how these Standards and Assessments will impact instruction P-20 across Colorado.

1. Post Secondary and Work Force Readiness: On June 30, 2009, meeting in joint session, the State Board of Education and Colorado Commission on Higher Education adopted Colorado's Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness definition, on which are based the 13 sets of Model Content Standards.

2. Model Content Standards in 13 areas have been developed and will be submitted to the State Board of Education for approval at their December meeting.

3. Assessments: SB08-212 CAP4Kids (Colorado Achievement Plan for Kids) calls for the adoption of assessments no later than December 2010, to replace the existing CSAP/ACT sequence. A Stakeholders Group has been convened and Public Hearings have been scheduled.

At the first meeting of the Stakeholders Group, reference was made to a recent article by Lorrie Shepard and others regarding assessments and accountability.
